First of all, I have to say I LOVE the idea of variety pack and I think every tea brand should provide this option! I am new to black tea so I cannot decide which kind of black tea to purchase. This variety pack allows me to taste the most popular back tea of Twinings, and helps me to figure out which is my favourite!
English Breakfast Tea
The classic black tea delivers a rich taste and satisfying aroma. It is probably one of the most popular teas of Twinings. Just as other English Breakfast Tea, Twinings’ English Breakfast is a strong tea with rich flavour, but not bitter. If you are new to black tea, English Breakfast is definitely a good choice for entry-level.
I like drinking English Breakfast as it is, without adding milk or sugar. A cup of hot black tea is just a perfect morning drink to start my day!
Irish Breakfast Tea
This full-bodied black tea gives a robust taste and hearty aroma. It tastes even stronger than the English Breakfast. According to Twinings, its Irish Breakfast is “much stronger, more intense in taste and bolder in colour” than its fore-runner English Breakfast.
If you are a lover of strong black tea, Irish Breakfast is for you! I never drink coffee and I find Irish Breakfast a good alternative. With more caffeine, the heavier black tea keeps me awake during an early working day.
Earl Grey Tea
Twinings’ Earl Grey blends black tea with citrusy bergamot. The balance is great. The tea does not taste too strong, with a light but distinctive flavour of bergamot.
I have to admit that I am not a huge fan of Earl Grey, but I enjoy having sweet desserts with a cup of freshly brewed Earl Grey.
Lady Grey Tea
Developed from Earl Grey, Lady Grey is a black tea with the citrus flavours of bergamot, orange and lemon. It is a lighter tea, with a relatively stronger fruity taste.
Sorry, but this is not my cup of tea. The orange taste is way too strong for me. Just looking at the tea bag, I can already see the citrus zest. However, you may want to try it if you love fruity tea. The taste is quite unique.
Overall, if I would have to rank the four types of black tea in Twinings’ Classic Black Tea Variety Pack, my choice is Irish Breakfast Tea > English Breakfast Tea > Earl Grey Tea > Lady Grey Tea
